The last few years more and more movies are coming out in three dimensions. This makes sense because of the new technology that has been created. But is this a good thing? Because it seems every big action or animation movie is ” in 3D”, but most of the movies have no reason for being in two dimensions rather than three. Or the studios threw in the 3D effect after to get up sales prices. One thing that is true is that the audiences must feel the same as me because the box office for movie theaters has gone done the last few years for a few reasons such as everyone has a big high-definition tv, redbox, and netflix, but one big reason was 3D. The fact is to take a date to the movies now a days isn’t cheap a single ticket can run around 13 dollars, plus the highly over priced popcorn and drinks.Isn’t worth it and to pay for a family could run your wallet over 60 bucks. Because a 2D movie ticket is still pretty expensive.
Some directors think that 3D is the future which it could very be if they improve a few things. Many big name directors have been making their films available in 3D such as Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg. I myself haven’t seen them in 3D, but I am sure they did a good job. Like in the best 3D film I have ever seen Avatar, James Cameron is someone who believes it’s the future. He helped create new 3D cameras and other technology for Avatar which will be used a lot in the future of 3D development. He put years of work for it, a reason why Avatars 3D was so good is the screen coming out happened with little things like flowers just floating in the air, rather than just something jumping towards the camera. So I think if more movies put in the time it will be better for the audience.
However not ever director feels this way such as Christopher Nolan who doesn’t like 3D and thinks IMAX is the future and told Warner Brothers that he would not film The Dark Knight Rises in 3D. And you got to respect him for standing up for what he thinks will be best for his movie, rather than jump on the 3D trend.
My big issue with 3D movies is that I don’t find the experience worth it. It costs a lot for a ticket and my eyes get tired from having to wear the glasses for two hours for cheap, crappy effects that aren’t even that much cooler than the 2D version. There are some good ones, but most are really bad. So as you could tell I am not the biggest fan of 3D, I like it only if it is done right which doesn’t happen often enough. However I don’t think it is going away any time soon so I just hope it gets better and cheaper. I also hope it gets better soon because there are already 3D TVs out and the tech is getting better. Still I don’t think it will catch on until there is a way for that the 3D can happen without having to wear the stupid glasses. We’ll all have to wait and see and hopefully see in better 3D.
